WelcomeMy Dad has a saying, "When is the last time you did something for the first time?" Well, lately we have been doing many things for the first time and they all seem to be related to one thing - our purchase of a slice of New Zealand in Marlborough (switch to Satellite view in the map below to get an idea of our block and the surrounding land).

The Story so far
Most will know our land story through either talking with us or from Facebook but for those that don't here's a brief summary. Last year after a lot of looking around we decided to jump on the chance of purchasing some land in Marlborough with the plan to relocate ourselves there. After negotiating and pulling out on buying a house (the owners wouldn't come down to our offer, but we had the last laugh as they then went into morgagee sale and the house sold for much less than what we were offering) we decided that for roughly the same amounts (ok, a wee bit more) we could buy the block of land next to the house and build and own. So that's what we did and are doing. Looking back I can honestly say that I'm glad the purchase fell through as the land we bought is much more usable and we are getting exactly what we want in a house.
So the land purchase went through and we found ourselves the proud owners of 15 hectares of New Zealand. What was next? Well designing the house became my focus and Daryl became great friends with TradeMe getting everything we needed to maintain the land, including of course, a tractor! Our next step, make the land work for us so this involved buying some cattle. 10 steers and 12 heifers later and we were officially cattle farmers.
What followed were periodic visits to the farm to check on and move the cows, get some fencing done and various other firsts for us. Not to mention deciding on some builders and finalising the house plans.

Where to from here...
I've designed this site to be a record of all our new experiences and adventures we are and will be having both now as beginner farmers and later as we build the house and eventually move up to live on and to an extent hopefully off our land. I expect we shall have some crazy times and I invite you to follow along and share them with us...
